Refugee Care Team Meeting

News by Brett Landry

As a network of neighbourhood churches, we have the privilege of welcoming another refugee family to Canada! Since we expect them to arrive some time in 2024, it is now time to build our Refugee Care Team.

The Scriptures call us emulate the nature and character of God in the way we care for all people, including the way we care for the orphan, the widow, and the refugee. Deuteronomy 10:18 says God “executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, giving him food and clothing.” One of the ways we can obey God and display his love for the world in a tangible manner is to give ourselves to refugee sponsorship as a network of neighbourhood churches. Intentionally caring for those who others find it easy to forget is a sign to the watching world around us that God is at work in and through our community. The family who will be arriving soon were displaced from their home through war and have spent twelve years in a refugee camp awaiting an opportunity like this.

If you are interested in welcoming a family to Canada, in building a relationship with them alongside others from Christ City, and in practically serving them and caring for them as they get settled in their new country, please join us in the Main Gathering Room at the Christ City South Vancouver building at 1:30 PM on Sunday, April 7 for more information. We will need help finding them housing, jobs, furniture, and clothing, and we will need people to help them with paperwork, administration, accessing medical and dental care, and so much more. If you’re not sure about joining this team, just come along and hear what it’s all about – your attendance is not, in and of itself, a commitment! If you have any questions about this, feel free to email Brett@christcitychurch.ca.
