This year for our Advent Giving Campaign we’re excited to be raising funds to help see Qadir and Najila plant a church reaching Afghan refugees in the Metro Vancouver area. Below is their story of coming to faith as well as their vision for Afghan Evangelical Fellowship.
Growing up in a Muslim household in Afghanistan, Qadir wrestled with questions about Islam that went unanswered, even facing persecution for his inquiries. Inspired by his brother’s faith and encouraged by a friend, Qadir began exploring Christianity. A dream where Jesus rescued him from a mud pit confirmed the truths he was discovering in the Bible. In December 2012, he accepted Christ, was baptized the following spring, and joined a discipleship program that launched him into seven years of ministry in Afghanistan alongside Najila, his wife.
The couple, married in 2015, was the first Christian couple in their house church. They established house churches, discipled believers, and trained leaders while raising two sons. In December 2020, due to pressure by the Taliban, they relocated to Tajikistan, where they planted an Afghan house church and expanded their ministry. Now in Canada, they continue to serve God faithfully.
Najila’s journey began when her father, a strict Muslim, experienced a miraculous transformation after accepting Christ. Although her family mocked his faith, Najila became curious and began studying the Bible. The love and grace in its pages deeply moved her, especially compared to the harsh experiences she associated with the Quran.
At a young age, Najila committed her life to Christ and grew in her faith. Her father, imprisoned with Qadir’s brother for their faith, played a key role in uniting their families in ministry. Together with Qadir, Najila has faithfully served by sharing the Gospel, discipling others, and ministering to Afghan communities in Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and now Canada.
Vision of the Afghan Evangelical Fellowship of Canada: A New Church for the Afghan Community in Western Canada
The Afghan Evangelical Fellowship of Canada is committed to establishing a Christ-centered church that will serve the Afghan immigrant and refugee community in Western Canada. Our vision is to create a spiritual home where Afghan believers and seekers can grow in their faith, experience the love of Christ, and build lasting fellowship. Through culturally relevant programs, Bible teachings, and leadership development, we aim to foster a vibrant evangelical community rooted in love, unity, and grace.
This church will provide not only spiritual nourishment but also practical support. Including discipleship programs, language classes, counseling, and assistance with integration into Canadian society. Our mission is to meet the unique needs of Afghan families while empowering them to become strong witnesses for Christ within their communities. By building bridges between Afghani’s and Canadians, we believe this church will be a beacon of hope, transformation, and the love of Christ for all.
