Men’s Discipleship Program

News by Jake LeFave

What is it?

A year-long intensive discipleship program for men involving weekly meetings, assigned readings, one-on-one mentoring, and intentional times of retreat throughout the year. As a church, we believe that men have been tasked with a uniquely influential role in their families, and in the church. While we seek to disciple all people, we believe that we can have exponential impact through the intentional and rigorous discipling of men.

This program will focus on training men:

  • First, by providing an intentional community of other brothers in Christ who, in love, are committed to seeing you flourish as a disciple of Jesus. This group will meet weekly to share dinner together, pray for one another, and allow others in the group to speak the gospel into their life.
  • Second, within this community of brothers, we’ll aim to see men become confident in understanding, applying, and obeying God’s Word. As much as this group seeks to engage men’s heart, it also seeks to engage their minds. Throughout the year we’ll adhere to a regular Bible reading plan, read books that help us better understand Scripture, and hear from guest speakers who will help bring the biblical narrative to life for us.
  • Thirdly, this group will include practical service opportunities, aimed at making us constructive members of our wider church community. Men who participate in this program will be given opportunities to serve in a number of contexts as we see fit.

Who is it for?

This program is for all committed men and serve as leaders at home, in the church, and in the marketplace. The applicant should be someone serious about growing in their faith, whether as a new believer or long-time Christian. Additionally, each applicant recognizes that in participating in the program, they are inviting increased accountability into their lives; entrusting themselves to other godly men committed to their well-being.

When does it start?

The inaugural year of this program begins September 2024 and runs until May 2025. The program mirrors the Community Group calendar, with “pauses” at both Christmas and Spring Break.

What am I committing to?

Each member of the men’s discipleship program commits to:

  • Attending a weekly meeting on Monday evening where we’ll work through a portion of Scripture, pray for one another, and receive teaching on a particular topic or passage.
  • Becoming (or continuing) as a member of a Service Team at Christ City East Vancouver.
  • Attending a Community Group in addition to the Men’s Discipleship Program.
  • Joining a WhatsApp group chat where you’ll post daily reflections on your morning Bible reading, and prayer requests.
  • Purchasing the assigned books and completing the readings in accordance with program. Over the course of the year, we intend to read between 5-6 books, costing approximately $150-$200.
  • Regularly meeting with a group of men outside of Monday evening to encourage one another in the gospel.
