We are excited to introduce Matt Crocker to the Christ City Church Staff as the Director of Youth!

We sat down with him and asked him a few questions to get to know him.

Tell us a little about yourself.
I am Matt Crocker, I am 25 years old, and I have been married to my beautiful wife Jodie for nearly 5 years. We both grew up in Abbotsford where we attended Northview Community Church our entire lives. We moved to Vancouver in July 2017 so that I could attend Regent College and get my Master of Divinity degree. We have been abundantly blessed with a great community this past year and we absolutely love Vancouver.

What is your role at Christ City Church?
I am super excited to start at Christ City Church as the Director of Youth Ministry. I will be interacting with a lot of you who have youth aged teenagers and kids. It will be a blessing to get to know you all. My role will include organizing youth events, discipling leaders and youth, and most importantly preaching the Gospel of Salvation in Jesus Christ.

How long have you been following Jesus?
I have been a Christian in some way since I was very young. I don’t remember a time where I officially gave my life to Jesus, but I was raised in a Christian home and I definitely believed Jesus to be my God and saviour. As I went through my high school years I went through some really difficult times. When I was around 18 years old I, for the first time, saw my sin for what it really was at the prompting of the Spirit and was moved to re-committ my life to Christ. I see my faith walk as one in which Christ has worked through different times and periods to bring me to a fuller understanding of who he is.

What does an ideal date night look like?
For me, an ideal date night would include lots of snacks and a movie.

Do you consider yourself a sports fan?
I am a sports fan in the sense that I watch the Seahawks and genuinely attempt to follow it. However, if you talk stats to me, or trades, or even some player names well, that’s beyond my fandom.

What is your favourite music genre or artist?
I always grew up listening to classic rock. My Dad introduced us to Rush at a very young age and has subsequently taken me and my two brother to 7 Rush concerts. So rock and roll has a place in my heart that other music just does not.

Aside from the Bible, what’s your favourite book?
My favourite book besides the Bible is probably Knowing God by J.I. Packer or Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. Both of which played a major role in my Christian walk after high school.

What are your top 3 go-to movies?
Top three movies in order of greatness:

  1. Indiana Jones and the Raiders on the Lost Ark
  2. Back to the Future
  3. The Good the Bad and The Ugly

What is the favourite place you have traveled to?
I haven’t traveled a lot, but of all the places I have been Jamaica was my favourite.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
If I could only eat one food for the rest of my life I would have to choose Pizza. Its got it all, carbs, dairy, tomato, and much more.

Last thoughts?
If there is one thing you need to know about me to really understand who I am it is my deep love for Seinfeld. Most of what I say is in reference to an episode of Seinfeld.
