Christ City Youth and Parents,
As September nears we’re gearing up in Christ City Youth for another amazing year of encountering Jesus. As you might be able to tell from the schedule, this year has a lot of “new” going on. What exactly is new?
Matt Crocker is the new Director of Youth
Matt is a great guy, who comes to us via Westsides internship program. Matt is also currently a student at Regent College, and his wife Jodie is an amazing graphic designer working at UBC. Matt will be taking the reins of Christ City Youth as Jake transitions into his new role as a Church Planting Apprentice. Make sure you say “hi” to Matt on a Sunday, and take him up on his standing offer to buy a Slurpee for any youth who asks.
Come September 9th, Sunday morning Jr. Youth will be for Gr.6-7 youth only. There are a few reasons for this. One, the curriculum-based teaching will be a two-year program. Two, we believe that students in Gr. 8 would be better served by being integrated into the main gathering. It is our hope that this will help foster a multi-generational body that worships and does life together. And instead of working through the same text as the Main Gathering room, now youth will be working through key Christian beliefs (similar format to our Discipleship Modules) each week. The purpose of this is to introduce key components of Christianity to the Jr. Youth giving them the knowledge and language to be integrated into the main gathering with the rest of God’s people. On September 9th we invite all Gr.6-7 youth to come ready to learn and encounter Jesus each Sunday with a notebook, pen, and a Bible.
The second big change being made is to the mid-week Youth gathering. This gathering will now be held on Monday night from 7-9pm and will include both Jr. and Sr. Youth. Students from Gr. 6 – 12 will come together for a night of games, preaching, and small group discipleship. It is our desire to see students worshipping God and loving one another across all age spectrums. Therefore, small groups will be multi-generational and of the same gender. Christ City Youth Leaders will be placed over these small groups for discipleship and community. An average Monday night will look like this: introduction/hangout, games, message, small group time. The small groups will also meet three times throughout the year for community building and discipleship.
We’re certainly aware that this is a lot of new information and upcoming change. If you have any questions for either Matt or Jake, feel free to email us at email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org. Our goal and desire is to partner with you as we together point the youth of Christ City to Jesus. To that end, we invite you to join us in prayer this year. We look forward to seeing you at the Parent Meeting on September 9th following the gathering.
