Dunbar Building Campaign
Christ City Church has the opportunity to purchase a historic United Church building in the heart of the Dunbar neighbourhood on the westside of the city of Vancouver.
Christ City Church is a network of neighbourhood churches that are large enough to meet the demands of ministry in the city, but small enough to maintain community. We have an emphasis on neighbourhood ministry that drives people to worship in proximity to where they live and work for the sake of evangelism, mission, and discipleship.
On October 25, 2019, Dunbar Heights United Church accepted our $10.5 million offer to purchase their property on the corner of Collingwood Street and West 24th Avenue, in the strategic heart of Dunbar.
This property sits on what would be six residential lots and consists of a large education building, a church sanctuary, and a house that was originally used as a parsonage for pastoral staff. We feel compelled that this would not be another story of a church building being sold to a developer or another religious group and lost to the advancement of the Kingdom of God in our city. There has been an ongoing trend of church buildings being sold in the city of Vancouver over the last thirty years, much like Toronto, Montreal, and other large cities in Canada. Once these properties are gone, we lose the social infrastructure needed to maximize our effectiveness as Jesus’ church.
Balance to be raised: $2 million
- Goal from the Christ City community: $1 million
- Goal from external partners: $1 million
Please consider partnering with us to recapture this physical church location that the body of Christ in Vancouver may grow and that Jesus’ Kingdom may come here as it is in heaven.
